Josie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, John C. Rettig; and a son-in-law, Keith "Skeeter" Schulte.
Florence Louise Rettig was born Feb. 23, 1923, in Middle Amana, Iowa, the daughter of Carl F. and Louise Hegewald Rettig. She graduated from the Amana High School in 1941 and attended the Cedar Rapids Business College for two years. Florence enjoyed people and looked forward to her many jobs over the years. Before her marriage, she worked at the Amana Main Office, the Amana Meat Market and the General Store. Florence married Walter Schuerer on Jan. 30, 1946, in Davenport, Iowa. Besides being a wife, mother and a homemaker, Florence worked at the Colony Inn from 1945 to 1990 and at the Brick Haus Restaurant alongside her husband, daughter and son-in-law from 1990 to 2010.
She enjoyed cooking, baking pies and gardening. She had fun dyeing Easter eggs every year and "giving them away!" She and Walter traveled to Japan, South America, Austria and Germany. But she especially cherished her family, grandchildren and her dogs, and the time she spent with them.
