Florence "Flo" Shoemaker, 92 of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Monday, March 29, 2021, in Johnston, Iowa, surrounded by her loving family. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 5, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom. Funeral services will take place at
10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church: 8300 C Ave., Marion, IA 52302. Burial will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A livestream of the funeral service may be accessed on the St. Mark's Lutheran Church website under stmarkscr.org/, under the watch live tab starting at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 6.
Following the continued guidance from health officials, physical distancing must be practiced, which requires a limited number of people allowed into the visitation at one time. The use of face masks or shields is required for the visitation and funeral service.
Florence Shoemaker was born on Nov. 1, 1928, in Maynard, Iowa, the daughter of Marion and Lucile (Feemster) Reese. Flo was united in marriage to Frank Shoemaker on Dec. 30, 1943, in Independence, Iowa. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, crocheting, knitting, gardening and being outdoors. Flo was a member of Olivet Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Flo was a homemaker. She most enjoyed the time spent with her beloved family and friends. Flo was a devoted and wonderful wife, mother, sister and grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her children, Michael (Martha) Shoemaker of Norwalk, Iowa, Richard (Sandy) Shoemaker of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Bill (Linda) Shoemaker of Johnston, Iowa; grandchildren, Melissa (Matt) Sowers of Burnsville, Minn., Candace (Jim) Woods of Marion, Iowa, Andrew (Kristen) Shoemaker of Perry, Iowa, Jin (Lola) Robbins of West Des Moines, Iowa, Rich (Amanda) Shoemaker of Lincoln, Neb., Scott (Amy) Shoemaker of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Robert Shoemaker of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Dee (Frank) Dolezal of Urbandale, Iowa, Chris (Raffi) Maduro of Indianola, Iowa, James (Wendy) Shoemaker of Dexter, Iowa, Anne (Michael) Belshan of Omaha, Neb., Karel (David) Roush of Waukee, Iowa, and Ed (Noreen) Nixon of Orlando, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Mara, Jimmy, Brandon, Nathan, Alayna, Emily, Trey, Joe, Elizabeth, Nicole, Alex, Catherine, Will, Jeffery, Joelle, Suzanne, Nathan, Matthew, Miranda, Amanda, Alyssa, Kaylee, Thomas, Kari, Margret, Alex and David; 14 great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Mary Pratt of Waterloo, Iowa, Pat Smejkal of Louisville, Ky., David Reese of Rockford, Ill., and Barb (William) Schriever of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Flo was preceded in death by her parents; spouse, Frank Shoemaker; a daughter, Marian Nixon; and three brothers, Don, John and Paul.
