FLORA DELLA HAMLING ZIESER

Flora Della Hamling Zieser, 98, formerly of Walker, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2015, at Halcyon House, Washington, Iowa. Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Walker, where the family will greet friends one hour before the service at the church. Burial: Sacred Heart Cemetery, Walker. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point.
Survivors include two sons, Larry Zieser (Kay) of Iowa City and Wayne (Julie) Zieser of Washington, Iowa; five grandchildren, Mike, Jerry, Todd, David and Brian Zieser; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a stillborn daughter, Flora Elizabeth; her husband, Lawrence; two brothers, Matthew and Nicholas; half brother, John Hamling; and two sisters, Louise Nolte and Armedia Zieser. She was the last one living of her brothers and sisters.
Flora Della Hamling was born Feb. 14, 1917, in Stahl, Mo., to Nicholas and Mary (Zanter) Hamling. Flora graduated from Alburnett High School in 1935. On Dec. 30, 1937, she married Lawrence John Zieser in Walker. They farmed for 10 years and owned and operated Jack Sprat retail grocery store in Walker for 25 years.
Flora enjoyed board games, crossword puzzles and loved to bowl and garden. An excellent cook and housekeeper, she also was an avid Cubs fan. Flora was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and very proud that her sons were veterans of the U.S. Military.
