FLORA WILLIAMS
Belle Plaine
Former Belle Plaine resident, Flora Belle Williams, 99, passed away May 1, 2014, at Cedar Valley Hospice House in Waterloo. She joined Our Heavenly Father and her husband, Randall.
Flora was born Sept. 19, 1914, in Marble Rock, Iowa, the daughter of William J. Lohr and Maggie Lohr. She was a graduate of Belle Plaine High School in 1933. On Nov. 29, 1934, she married Randall A. Williams at her mother's home in Belle Plaine. They were married for 78 and a half years.
Flora worked for Doctors Snitkey, Don Newland and Norman C. Knosp for over 20 years. During that time she assisted in countless deliveries at the Cornbelt Hospital in Belle Plaine, was trained to assist with surgeries, worked at the front desk and oversaw the medicine stores.
She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Belle Plaine, the past president of the Jennings-Bradshaw Legion Auxiliary, a member of Eastern Star and an active participant in the local bridge club.
Flora loved people. The coffee pot was always on and there was always something homemade for visitors. She is remembered by her grandchildren as a knitter of hats, teacher of card games and fishing companion. Flora and Randall are both remembered as expert root beer float makers, the best banana splits and for having "Harvey" the 6-foot tall rabbit "living" in their basement.
Surviving Flora are her two daughters, Nona (Klaas) Kruger, Cedar Falls, and Sharon (Byron) Holst, Keystone; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband,
Randall on Jan. 18, 2013; her parents; brothers,
Allan, Paul "Pete," Harry and Leland; and her sisters, Jenny Case, Marietta Jacobson and Fern
Wagner.
Flora and Randall will rest together at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Belle Plaine. The graveside inurnment service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16. The family wishes to invite any friends who are unable to attend the graveside service to join them at the Jennings-Bradshaw Legion at noon to remember Flora and Randall.
It is the wish of the family that any memorials be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.
