Floden, Louis LeRoy 'Lou'
Louis LeRoy “Lou” Floden, 85, of Mount Vernon, formerly of Oelwein, died Friday, March 16, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, due to pneumonia. Lou's funeral, with Masonic rites, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, at Morgan Funeral Choices, Mount Vernon. Lou's visitation will be Tuesday, March 20, from 5 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial: 3 p.m. Wednesday at Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein.
Surviving Lou is his wife, Juanita; son, Louis Jr. (Carol) Floden, Pella; daughter, Drs. Betty (Timothy) Cross, and son, Drs. Thomas (Linda) Floden, both of Mason City; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Lou is also survived by two brothers, John, Sumner, and Glen (Virginia), St. Peter, Mo.; and two sisters, Bertha Kolarich, Godfrey, Ill., and Marlyn (Ralph) Boleyn, Washburn.
Preceding Lou in death were his parents and infant son, Rodney.
Lou was born June 17, 1926, in his home in Nashua, the son of Richard and Myrtle (Goodwin) Floden. Lou married his wife of 65 years, Juanita Powers, on Aug. 12, 1946, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. Lou and his family moved from Oelwein to Mount Vernon in 1965. He retired as a foreman/serviceman of the Mount Vernon natural gas division for Iowa Electric Light and Power Co. after 34 years of service.
Lou was a union member and served as steward. Lou was a faithful member of Mount Vernon Masonic Lodge 112. He and his family are members of the Mount Vernon United Methodist Church.
