Flannery, Robert J.
Robert J. Flannery, 90, of Oxford, died peacefully at Parkview Manor in Wellman, Iowa, on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Cosgrove, with the Rev. Edmund Dunn officiating. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City. A rosary will begin at 4 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 6:45 p.m. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery in Cosgrove.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Parkview Manor or St. Peter's Church.
Robert was born Jan. 3, 1922, in Oxford, to James and Marguerite (Kessler) Flannery. He married Maxine Quinlan on April 12, 1944, in Cosgrove. Robert was a lifelong Johnson County farmer and a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church.
Robert is survived by two sons, Dale (Kay) Flannery of Iowa City and Dan Flannery of Oxford; two grandsons, Michael (Christy) Flannery of Raleigh, N.C., and Patrick (Jessica) Flannery of Iowa City; six great-grandchildren, Brendon, Aidan and Ashlyn, all of Raleigh, N.C., and Cory, Liam and Elleigh, all of Iowa City; two sisters, Helen Halsch of Oxford, and Marita McGurk of Iowa City; and a sister-in-law, Pauline Flannery of Iowa City.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine; a brother, James; and his parents.
