Fisher, Mary M.
Mary M. Fisher, 71, of 340 15th St., Marion, died Sunday, May 2, 2010, in her home surrounded by family and friends. Services: 3 p.m. Friday at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Father Christopher Podhajsky. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Inurnment: 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Brenda (Kevin) Buker and David Fisher, all of Marion; granddaughter, Ricki Sue (Tim) Ironside; great-grandchildren, Mercedes “Sadie” Ironside, Melanie Ironside and Mary Jo Ironside; daughter-in-law, Karen Fisher of Cedar Rapids; step-grandson, Jason Nelson of Cedar Rapids; sisters, Marge Mills and Kate Studer, both of Emmetsburg, and Arlette (Junior) Stemple of Ralston, Neb.; and brothers, Ike of Seattle, Wash., and Raymond (Shirley) Weir of Carter Lake.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; son, Sgt. Paul Fisher who died in 2003 during the Iraqi Freedom War; and brothers, John, Patrick and Gerald Weir.
Born Oct. 24, 1938, in Emmetsburg, Iowa, Mary was the daughter of Patrick and Helen (Lyons) Weir. She worked in elder care at a nursing home and then Perkins Restaurant.
Mary was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and was dedicated to her religion. She was very proud to be a military mother. Mary enjoyed writing, music, a good joke, but most of all spending time with her grandchildren.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Hospice of Mercy, Linn County Home Health Care (Tracy) and her son David and Dottie, her loyal companion for taking care of her.
