Fisher, Leo D.
Leo D. Fisher, 84, of Iowa City, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Iowa City, with the Very Rev. Rudolph Juarez officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at Lensing Funeral Home, 605 Kirkwood Ave., in Iowa City, where a rosary will be recited at 3 p.m.
Leo was born June 16, 1928, in Charles City, Iowa, the son of Harry H. and Bernadean (Alderman) Fisher. He was a 1946 graduate of Charles City High School and later went on to marry the love of his life, Jeanne Bullen. on May 14, 1949. Leo was a golf pro in Pensacola, Fla., Aledo, Ill., and Wildwood Country Club in Charles City. In 1960, Leo and his family moved to Iowa City, where he was the owner/pperator of the Union 76 in Coralville and later retired from the City of Coralville Recreation Center.
Leo was an avid golfer, Hawkeye fan and was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan. Leo always looked forward to his Friday night fish dinner and playing euchre on Sundays.
Survivors include his two children, Valerie (Richard) Donohoe of Iowa City and David (Sandra) Fisher of Davenport; a brother, Richard (Florence) Fisher of Eldora; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Walter, Joan Fisher and Marge Bullen; grandchildren, Chris (Dawn) Jennings, Brian Donohoe, Danielle (Nathan) Ostlund, Lisa Donohoe (Matthew McHugh) and Meggie Fisher; great-grandchildren, Kennedi Buser, Shelby Donohoe, Miranda and Jayce McHugh; and several nieces and nephews.
Leo was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jeanne; parents, Harry and Bernadean; a brother, Harry Fisher Jr.; brothers-in-law, Pat Bullen, Jack Bullen, Jerry Bullen and Wayne Walter; and a sister-in-law, Helen Bullen.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to The Leo Fisher Memorial Fund.
