Finley, Lillian R. 'Bob'
Lillian R. “Bob” Finley, 95, of Coralville, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City following a sudden illness. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Lensing Funeral Home, 605 Kirkwood Ave., Iowa City. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Mercy Hospice at Mercy Iowa City.
Lillian was born in Arlington, Iowa on May 24, 1914, the daughter of John P. and May C. (Adair) Wineke. She attended Coralville schools and was a lifelong resident of Coralville. In 1947, Lillian was united in marriage to Roy E. Finley.
The Coralville City Park was very important to Lillian and she spent countless hours picking up trash and planting flowers. Volunteering was a cornerstone of her life. Lillian also enjoyed traveling and exercising with her friends at the Coralville Rec Center. She truly cherished the time she spent with her family and friends.
Survivors include her daughter, Patricia (Ivan) Detweiler of Iowa City, and their children, Mike, Patrick, Steve, Rhonda, Robin and Lisa; her two sons, Arnold (Shirley) Burgess of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and their children, Timothy, Julie and Amy, and Paul (Mary) Burgess of Iowa City, and their children, Paul Jr., Traci, Terri and Wendy. Survivors also include Lillian's brother, Don Wineke of Canyon City, Colo.; six stepchildren, Bob, Gene, Jerry, Linda, Donna and Louise; 29 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Lillian was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; her parents, John and May; her two sisters, Mabel Sladek and Ruth Horrell; and one brother, Arnold Wineke.
