Finley, Gene Jr.
Gene Finley Jr., 75, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2012, at Manor Care in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services for Gene will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 2, at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Lone Tree. Pastor Richard Marsceau will officiate the services. Burial will be in Lone Tree Cemetery. Following the committal services, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Lone Tree American Legion. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in Gene's name.

Roy Eugene Finley was born on March 13, 1937, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Roy E. and Claudia (Beatrice) Finley. On Feb. 13, 1959, Gene was united in marriage to Janis Conner in Greentop, Mo. Gene was employed with Hacap, the University of Iowa and several other companies. He was a plumber, electrician, carpenter, mechanic and HVAC specialist. He proudly served his country in the National Guard for many years. He graduated from Kirkwood Community College in 2001. Gene enjoyed riding motorcycles, repairing cars, tinkering with things, doing cross words and fixing computers.
Gene will be deeply missed by his wife, Janis of Cedar Rapids; his children, Debbie Lockhart and her husband, Paul of Cedar Rapids, Vickie Jones of Texas, Craig Edmonds of Minnesota, Steven Finley and his wife, Jonette of Cedar Rapids and Robert Finley and his wife, Lee Ann of Cedar Rapids; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and his siblings; Donna Shacklett and her husband, Chuck of Missouri, Linda Sapp of Waterloo, Louise Thomas and her husband, Jim of Missouri, Jerry Finley of Lone Tree, Pat Detweiller, Paul Burgess and his wife, Mary and Arnie Burgess; all of Iowa City.
Gene was preceded in death by his father, Roy E. Finley Sr.; his mother, Claudia Beatrice Finley; his stepmother, Lillian “Bob” Finley; his brother, Robert; and three sisters in infancy.
