Fields Sr., Douglas Gene
Douglas Gene Fields Sr., of Sunrise Beach, Mo., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died at his home on Friday, May 28, 2010. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 3, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids by the Rev. Bill Harnish. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial: Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Janice; his children, Randy Fields of Baltimore, Md., Harry (Sharon) Fields of Silver Springs, N.M., George (Michelle) Fields of Elmwood, Neb., and Charmain Armstrong of Cedar Rapids; stepchildren, Doug (Carrie) McArtor of Cedar Rapids, Kevin (Marsha) McArtor of Kensett, Ark., and Kelli (Ted) Trevino of Sunrise Beach, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and 10 brothers and sisters, Lois (Jack) Frisk, Evelyn Weaver, Carol (Bill) Rawson, Cheryle Hootman and Pauline Hanson, all of Cedar Rapids, Michael Fields of Hiawatha, George (Janice) Fields Jr. of Cedar Rapids, Penny (Don) Zeller of Atkins, Louise (Lecil) Pierce of Mississippi and Shirley Rundall of Sunrise Beach, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Bonnie; a son, Doug Jr.; and a granddaughter, Chantel.
Doug was born July 12, 1931, the son of George W. and Ruth (Kimbrough) Fields in Kostza, Iowa. On Dec. 18, 1975, he married Janice M. Rain in Cedar Rapids. He served with the United States Army during the Korean conflict. Doug was the director of sewer maintenance for the City of Cedar Rapids for 26 years, retiring in 1995.
Doug was a member of West Lake Christian Church in Laurie, Mo., Lions Club International, American Legion Sunrise Beach, and Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. No. 2705.
