Fiala, Mattoon, Ill. and Rosemary (Roy) Keen, Cedar Rapids; 13 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren; and brothers, John F. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent; daughter, Jeanne Halsch; daughter-in-law, Carolyn A. Fiala; grandson, Matthew Fiala; great-granddaughter, Melissa Halsch; and parents, John J. and Anastasia (Dusek) Krall.
Margaret was born Sept. 27, 1918, in Cedar Rapids, and was a lifelong resident. She married Vincent P. Fiala on June 7, 1938, in Cedar Rapids and he died Jan. 24, 2004.
Margaret was a lifelong member of Saint Ludmila Catholic Church. She was a member of Saint Mary's Society 119, Czech Catholic Union and a former member of Sokol Cedar Rapids where she was active with their Quilters' group.
Margaret was a loving, caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. When you think of Mom, you think of Dad. They were married for 65 years. They owned and operated Polehna's Meat Market for 47 years. Mother was full of laughter, smiles and one-liners, her famous one being, “I need a bucket of gold coins.”
The family would like to thank everyone who helped Mom over the years, with recovery from the flood and with her quality of life.
Mom will be truly missed.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be given to Saint Ludmila Catholic Church.
Online condolences may be left for the family at under “obituaries.”
