Fettkether, Robert F.
Robert F. Fettkether, 89, a resident of Hallmark Care Center, Mount Vernon and longtime resident of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at Sacred Heart Church, Oelwein. The family will greet friends after 9:30 a.m. at the church. Burial: Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein. Military honors provided by Ross Reid American Legion Post #9.
Survivors include his children, Tom Fettkether and Bill (Teresa) Fettkether, both of Cedar Rapids, Sharon (Kurt) Rothbart of Lisbon and Fred (Annie) Fettkether of Texas; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and siblings, Patricia (Al) Chidester, Harold (Agnes) Fettkether and Norbert (Leah) Fettkether.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marian; daughter, Carol Fettkether; sister, Mary; and two brothers, Charles and Leon.
Born Oct. 13, 1923, in Orrin, Iowa, Robert was the son of Martin and Genevieve (Kolb) Fettkether. Robert served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. On Sept. 6, 1950, he was united in marriage to Marian Schuler in Hazleton, Iowa. He worked for Sanitary Farm Dairies and Land of Lakes until retiring.
