Ferreter, Norman J.
Norman J. Ferreter, 88, of Cedar Rapids, died at home Wednesday, May 26, 2010. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church by the Rev. Dennis Cahill. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, with military honors. A vigil service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m.
Survivors include his wife, Lois, of almost 60 years; children, Richard Ferreter of Cedar Rapids, Colleen Ferreter of Peoria, Ill., and Randall Ferreter of Orlando, Fla.; brother, Loren Ferreter of Independence; sister, Marjorie Scott of Winthrop; and four grandchildren, Kyle and Ross Ferreter Smith and Justin and Rachel Ferreter.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard P. Ferreter.
Norman was born Dec. 26, 1921, in Quasqueton, to John and Matilda Ferreter. He married Lois Pflughaupt in Oelwein on June 3, 1950. Norman was an Army veteran of World War II. He was employed at Rockwell Collins from 1960 to 1984. He was an avid fisherman and Cubs fan. When he told tall tales he had a twinkle in his eye and had an Irish sense of humor. All through their marriage he kept the whole family laughing. He loved babies and couldn't pass a baby without smiling. He was always fascinated with children.
He will be remembered as a loving husband and father.
