Ferree, John Edward

John Edward Ferree, 67, of Marion, passed away Tuesday evening, May 4, 2010, at Crestview Acres Nursing Home in Marion. A gathering of friends and family will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 7, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion.

John is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary; his son, Philip and wife Kate, and children, Keegan, Ian and Zoe; his son, Frank and wife Sarah, and son, Owen; sisters, Mary (Paul) Robbins and Betty (Donald) Hensyel; a sister-in-law, Jane Ferree; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, William.

John was born June 28, 1942, in Oskaloosa, the son of Earl Thomas and Eva Mae (Shaw) Ferree. He married Mary Meneough on Aug. 14, 1965. John received his B.S. degree from Iowa State University in 1964 and his M.S. degree from UNI in 1971. He taught Industrial Arts at Tripoli for five years and at Linn-Mar High School for 33 years. He loved working with students and had kept many friendships throughout the years. Many of the teachers John worked with were his best friends. He enjoyed helping others and will be missed by his family and friends. One of John's greatest pleasures was the time spent with his grandchildren.
