Fern I. Schluter, 96, of Lowden, died Friday, April 15, 2016, at Clarence Nursing Home. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, at Zion United Church of Christ, by the Rev. Stephen Stepp. Burial: Lowden Cemetery. Visitation: 9:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.
Born Oct. 13, 1919, in Massillon, Iowa, Fern was the daughter of Henry and Mathilda (Niermeyer) Toerber. She married Raymond Walter Schluter on Nov. 22, 1939. He died in 1978.
Fern was a hardworking farm woman and was known for her homemade coffee cake. Her garden and roses will miss her.
Survivors include a son, Richard (Butch) and wife Sig of Lowden; daughters, Sharon (Robert) Johnson of Tipton, Teri (Mark) Hormann of Clarence and Sandra (Allen) Koch of Lowden; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Sheila; daughter-in-law, Peggy Schluter; brother, Harold Toerber; sister, Eleanor Soenksen; and a great-grandson.
