Fern A. Schintler, 89, died peacefully Thursday, June 30, 2016, at Atrium Village in Hills.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, at St. Mark's Methodist Church with the Rev. Sean McRoberts and the Rev. Chris Humrichouse officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, and after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Mark's Methodist Church, Camp Courageous or the charity of the donor's choice.
Fern was born April 19, 1927, in Johnson County, Iowa, the daughter of Leo and Edna Seering Fountain. She was raised in Lone Tree where she was a 1945 graduate of Lone Tree High School. On April 19, 1948, Fern married John "Jack" Schintler Jr.
Fern was a member of St. Mark's Methodist Church. She volunteered at the Mercy Hospital Gift Shop and was a 4-H leader in Union Township. Fern and John enjoyed the 27 years they wintered in Arizona. Time spent sewing, traveling and dancing was special, but most important to Fern was her family.
Fern is survived by her loving husband, John "Jack" Jr.; their four children, Edward John Schintler (Dalouny Guildner) of Phoenix, Ariz., Dennis Leo (Lisa) Schintler of Iowa City, Suzanne Marie (James) Clemens of Plymouth, Minn., and Joel Dean (Melissa) Schintler of Iowa City; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Fern was preceded in death by her parents; her twin sister, LaVerne Hansen; and siblings, Juanita Lovetinsky, Helen Mahan and Paul Fountain.
