Ferdig, Ruth L.
Ruth L. Ferdig, 83, of Iowa City, died Sunday, June 17, 2012, at Mercy Iowa City. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 21, at the Welsh United Church of Christ, near Iowa City, with the Rev. Jerry Stevenson presiding. Burial will follow in Welsh Pioneer Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Brosh Chapel in Solon, located at 100 S. Cedar St.
Ruth was born Jan. 6, 1929, in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of John and Anna (Cheapka) Wickey. She married George Ferdig on Feb. 22, 1947, in Sioux City. Ruth was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an avid bingo player and will be missed by her family; her close friends, Bonnie Hauser and Darlene Sheldon; and her dog, Mandy.
Ruth is survived by her children, Sandra (Bruce) Cook of Urbandale, Diana (Russ) Hradek of Cedar Rapids, Randy (Luanne) Ferdig of Solon, and Rick Ferdig (Elaine Donner) of Rifle, Colo.; eight grandchildren, Nicole Cook, Traci (James) Clarke, Jennifer A. Ferdig, Jaclyn Ferdig, Jessica Ferdig, Jennifer I. Ferdig, Julia Ferdig and William Hradek; two great-grandchildren, Samantha and Lucas Clarke; and siblings, Opal Sturgeon of Sioux City, Phyllis Lovejoy of LaVerne, Calif., Joanne Goedicke of Des Moines, Francis (Shirley) Wickey of Sioux City, Ray (Carolyn) Wickey of Shawnee Mission, Kan., and Gene (Gloria) Wickey of Tucson, Ariz.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; and an infant daughter, Pamela.
The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses at Mercy Iowa City ICU for their special care of Ruth.
