Feiereisen, Richard J.
Richard J. Feiereisen, 88, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, June 26, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Private graveside services: Saturday, July 2, at Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military honors. Arrangements with Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his children, Diana Feiereisen of Cedar Rapids and Carl (Debbie) Feiereisen of Boyers, Pa.; daughter-in-law, Sally Thurmond of Carrollton, Texas; four grandchildren, Bethany (Dan) Daly of Waterloo, Jeff (Stephanie) Lightfoot of Springfield, Ill., John (Rebecca) Feiereisen of Waterloo and Tawnya (Ken) Evans of Fort Washington, Md.; four great-grandchildren, Claire Daly, Elly and Julia Lightfoot and Xia Evans; and special friends, Sherry Feiereisen, Rocky (Karen) Pence, Rod (Kathy) Mefford and Tim (Annie) Hagie and their family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret; son, Richard; daughter, Cindy; son-in-law, Bill Lightfoot; brother, John; and sister, Dorothy.
Richard was born May 9, 1923, the son of John and Marie (Blazek) Feiereisen, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He served his country with the United States Army during World War II. On Feb. 26, 1949, Richard married Margaret A. Klepach in Iowa City. He worked for Link Belt Speeder as a painter, retiring after 36 ½ years of service.
An avid Cubs fan, Richard also loved softball and was a member of VFW Post 788.
