Faye Louise Busching was born May 14, 1933, on a farm in Butler County, Iowa, near Clarksville. She was the daughter of Ervin and Elsa (Miller) Busching. Following graduation from Plainfield High School, she attended the former Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, receiving her teaching degree. While attending the University of Colorado in Boulder, she met Clayton Shalla, whom she later married on June 10, 1956. She taught in La Porte City before coming to Iowa City Community School District and began a career teaching first grade at Coralville Elementary, from 1956 until her retirement in 1988.
Faye (or Mrs. Shalla) was so proud of all the children she taught over the years and many remember her fondly. She enjoyed much in her life, fine dining, good talk, small gossip, extended vacations, reading, games with anyone, but most of all she loved her family! They include her son and his wife, Jeff and Angie Shalla; and four grandchildren, Nicole, Jacob, Joshua and Rachel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton, and her parents.
