Fay, Dorothy J.
Dorothy J. Fay, 85, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center after a short illness. Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, John (Jack); two sons, Joseph (Julie) of Marion and John (Anna) of Kansas City, Mo.; three daughters Jeanne (Terrance) Sampsell of Longmont, Colo., Julie (Doug) Dalby and Cheryl Fay, both of Marion; a brother, Don Palmer of Dubuque; and a sister, Sheila Pauly of Hiawatha. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Nikki, T.J., Elizabeth, Abby, Ethan, Brooke, Jessica, Mike and Callie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Mary Eagen; and a sister, Ruth McDonnell.
Dorothy was born Oct. 9, 1928, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Clyde and Esther Newkirk Palmer. She married John J. Fay on June 25, 1955, in Dubuque. Dorothy was a member of All Saints Catholic Church. She enjoyed reading, cross stitching, crafts and especially the time spent with friends and her beloved family.
Dorothy was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Hospice of Mercy or the American Cancer Society.
