Faust, Irene
Irene Faust, 81, of Monticello, died Sunday, July 4, 2010, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center from complications of multiple sclerosis. Private family services will be held Saturday, with a public celebration of life and luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Monticello Eagles Club Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello is caring for Irene and her family. The Rev. Al Polito will officiate at the services.

Surviving are three children, Sandy (John) Alire of Monticello, Tom (Cathy) Faust of North Liberty, and Bob (Kim) Faust of Monticello; and four grandchildren, Nikki, Brandon, Allison and Makenzie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Elmer and Franklin; and her former husband, Fred Faust.
Irene Mildred Pecka was born Dec. 21, 1928, at Friend, Neb. She was the daughter of Frank and Agnes Divoky Pecka. She graduated from the Swisher/Shueyville Schools, where she active in girls basketball. Irene then went to work at Quaker Oats in Cedar Rapids. She later operated the Pine Inn in southwest Cedar Rapids with her mother and sister-in-law, Phyllis Pecka.
Irene married Fred Faust. The couple built and operated the Dairy Mart located on North Main Street in Monticello. The couple later divorced.
Irene enjoyed auctions, gardening, mushroom hunting, dancing, crossword puzzles and garage sales with her grandchildren, watching “Wheel of Fortune” and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
