Farkas, Jessica Ann 'Jess'
Jessica Ann “Jess” Farkas, 21, of Iowa City, went to be with her Lord Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011, after enduring a one-year illness. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City, with the Rev. John Spiegel officiating. (Sunday parking ordinance will be in effect for the streets around the church.) Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service.
Jess was born July 11, 1990, in Iowa City, the daughter of Ronald and Ann (Mackenzie) Farkas. She attended Iowa City Schools, graduating from West High School with the class of 2008. She had then attended Kirkwood Community College and worked at The Vine in Coralville until her illness forced her to stop doing both.
Jess loved playing soccer in school, being a member of the Alliance Soccer Club for over seven years. She enjoyed many things in her life, shopping, listening to country music, hanging out with her friends, just being who she was.
One very tender hearted, loving, compassionate friend to many, and daughter, sister, granddaughter, cousin and aunt to her family.
Her family includes her parents, Ann and Ronald Farkas of Coralville; sisters, Lea (Michael L.) Guldenpfennig of Muscatine and Katherine Farkas of Coralville; brothers, Matthew Farkas of Davenport and Jonathan Farkas of Coralville; grandfathers, Herbert Mackenzie of Davenport and George Farkas of Coralville; nephew, Michael W. Guldenpfennig of Muscatine; uncles, William Mackenzie of Denver, Colo., and Steven Farkas of Coralville; an aunt, Mary Davis (Grant Davis Jr.) of Little Rock, Ark.; and a cousin, Grant Davis III.
She was preceded in death by her grandmothers, Margaret Mackenzie and Janet (Reed) Hartman; and an infant brother, Joseph Farkas.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Jess's memory.
