Fangmann, Jeanette R.
Jeanette R. Fangmann, 89, of 920 Third Ave. SE, Cascade, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2010, at 8:50 p.m. at Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade. Friends and relatives of Jeanette may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, where a CDA Rosary will be held at 5:30 p.m. and a wake service at 8 p.m. Services for Jeanette will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 9, at
St. Martin's Catholic Church in Cascade, with the Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Cascade.
Jeanette was born Jan. 8, 1921, in Worthington, Iowa, daughter of Hillarius “Hilar” N. and Mary Emerence (Engler) Smith. She received her education in St. Paul's School in Worthington, Iowa. On May 20, 1941, she was united in marriage to Louis Fangmann at St. Paul's Catholic Church
in Worthington. She was a devoted and loving wife for the 69 years of her marriage to Louie. The couple farmed in the rural Cascade area until their retirement. She enjoyed gardening and working in her flower beds. She was a member of St. Matthias Parish in Cascade.
She is survived by seven children, Karen (Carl) Kelchen of Cascade, Thomas (Linda) Fangmann of Ely, Carol Jean (James) Triplett of Bull Shoals, Ark., Larry (Vicki) Fangmann of Cascade, Mary Jo (Joseph) Wagner of Anamosa, Lee Fangmann of Cascade and Joannie Knapp of Dubuque;
18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Alfred (Rose) Smith of Cascade and Howard (Leona) Smith of Bayfield, Wis.; two sisters, Eileen (Wendell) Watson of Jamesville, Iowa and Carolyn (Virgil) Hunt of Edgewood; and a sister-in-law, Betty Smith of Onslow.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Louis H. Fangmann on July 23, 2010; one son, Jim Fangmann in April 1958; three sisters, Ruth and Margie Smith, both in infancy, and Germaine McElmeel; and four brothers, George, Louis, Emmett and Cletus Smith.
Memorials for Jeanette R. Fangmann may be given to Camp Courageous, Monticello, Iowa in lieu of flowers.
