Fajmon, Vlasta M. (Bezdecny)
Vlasta M. (Bezdecny) Fajmon, 96, a lifetime resident of Cedar Rapids, passed away Tuesday evening, Aug. 31, 2010, at Heritage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness. Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Papich-Kuba Janeba Chapel West, 1604 J St. SW, by the Rev. William Harnish. Burial: Czech National Cemetery. Friends may visit one hour before the service.
Surviving family includes a daughter, Ellen Kepler (John) of Cedar Rapids; son, Leon Sulek (Diana, deceased) of Lombard, Ill.; four granddaughters, Cherie Marriott (Robert), Kim Stenberg (Eric), Jessica Dalessandro (Joe) and Jennifer Patee (Kevin); and nine great-grandchildren.
Vlasta was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Charles; and her husband, Frank W. Fajmon.
Vlasta was born Dec. 18, 1913, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Charles and Emilie (Chmelicek) Bezdecny. She was a member of the former Czech Evangelical and Reformed Church and Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church. She was employed in the office of the Z.C.B.J. (later Western Fraternal Life Association).
Vlasta was a 50-year member of Lodge Cedar Rapids 262 W.F.L.A. and the Z.C.B.J. Women's Drill Team. She was a member of various Czech organizations, including the Czech Heritage Foundation and the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library. Vlasta participated in Sokol gymnastics, the Women's Educational Society (Damska Matice) and performed in many Czech plays.
She ws very devoted to her family and her church and was very proud of her Czech heritage.
Memorials may be given to Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church in her memory.
