Faith Ann McDonnell made her transition from this earthly plane to heaven early Sunday morning surrounded by family and friends. She was showered with love and prayers during this illness and sudden death. It was an honor to be with her and support her during this process. People have described her as a very strong, kind person who was an excellent nurse. She had a great wealth of knowledge that she willingly shared, but she always wanted to make sure that you did it the right way.
Faith O'Shogay was born June 7, 1949, in Hayward, Wis., the daughter of Alfred and Beatrice (DeMarr) O'Shogay. Faith graduated from DeWitt Central High School and St. Anthony's School of Nursing. She was motivated at a young age to succeed and paid her own way through college. Faith met her husband while she worked at Don's drive-in as a car hop. She was smitten with his quick wit, zest for life and flair for colorful language. Faith married Joseph McDonnell on Sept. 19, 1970, in Villanova, Iowa, at St. Patrick's. He died Jan. 6, 2009.
Faith was employed as a registered nurse and house supervisor at Jane Lamb and Mercy Hospital in Clinton for more than 45 years. She retired in March 2016 and was able to spend more time with her grandkids, just as she had always wanted. Faith loved cooking, hosting family gatherings, shopping, and spending time with her grandkids. She was a blessing to all who knew her. We will honor her memory by celebrating her life and cherish the memories of our family.
Faith was a member of Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe Indian tribe in Hayward.
Survivors include her daughter, Trish (Jim) Peckosh-Rudin of Cedar Rapids; son, Joe (Jess Habner) McDonnell of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Benjamin Peckosh and Zoey Faith McDonnell; siblings, Dave O'Shogay of Cedar Rapids, Janice (Gary) Tainter of New Post, Wis., Everett (Brenda) O'Shogay of Cedar Rapids, Dean O'Shogay of New Post, Cori (Kevin Carr) Dwire of Cedar Rapids and Jerry (Karen) O'Shogay of Spokane, Wash.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Alfred and Alonzo; sister, Cindy Gruntorad; niece, Monica Dwire; grandson, Beau Peckosh; and granddaughter, Savannah Rudin.
Memorials may be made to the family.
