Fairchild, Gerald 'Jerry' Wayne
Gerald “Jerry” Wayne Fairchild, 77, of Marion, former resident of Davis County, Iowa, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. He was born July 30, 1933, in Wapello County, Iowa, to Don and Alice Glenn Fairchild. He married Betty Blackwell on Nov. 10, 1951, in Davis County. Gerald worked for Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids for 40 years, retiring in 1994. He was an avid Hawkeye fan and member of the I Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snow skiing, trapshooting, working on the farm in Davis County and was a championship bowler. He was a past president of APICS.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Gerry Fairchild of Marion; a daughter, Theresa (Keith) Kintopf. also of Marion; a granddaughter, Lilly Fairchild of Williamsburg; five sisters, Janice Courtney and JoAnn Stivers, both of Ottumwa, Betty Jean Rogers of Robins, Janie Fairchild of Marion, and Nancy Mahanger of Toronto, Canada; and a brother, Raymond Fairchild of Shellsburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Mildred Dawson Fairchild; a brother, Dale Fairchild; and a sister, Mary Nelson.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 4, at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Stephen Bowie officiating. Burial will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. Thursday, with the family present to greet friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials have been established to Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha and the Davis County Fair Board.
