Fae Edwards, 87, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Friday, February 16, 2024. A graveside service will take place at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Linwood Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, with Pastor Bonnie Koeppen officiating. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow until 11:00 a.m. at the Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids is assisting the family.
Fae was born August 29, 1936, in Bertram, Iowa, the daughter of David and Bessie (Comp) Sparks. She graduated from Mt. Vernon High School, Class of 1954. Fae was united in marriage to Lawrence Owen Edwards on August 30, 1958, in Hannibal, Missouri. She worked for Iowa Power and Light and later transitioned into the role of a devoted stay-at-home mother. Fae returned to the workforce as bookkeeper for the Cedar Rapids Community School District, where she dedicated 28 years before retiring. She enjoyed playing cards and traveling in her retirement years. Above all else, Fae cherished time spent with her family.
Survivors include her children, Earl Van (Rhonda) Edwards of Cedar Rapids, Kay Cox of Independence, Missouri, and David (Val) Edwards of Madison, Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Eric (Theresa) Edwards, Scott (Stephanie) Edwards, Sara (Philip) Nicolaus, Tyler (Erin) Cox, and Andrew Cox; nine great-grandchildren; and brother, David (Shirley) Sparks of Ankeny, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Bessie Sparks; husband, Lawrence Edwards; sisters, Lavonne Lewig, Mary Wood, Dorothy Wood, and Ora Fare; and son-in-law, Tim Cox.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Stoney Point Meadows and Mercy Hospice for their loving care of Fae.
