F. Ruth Peterson, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, July 13, 2014, at the Mechanicsville Nursing and Rehab Center. A memorial service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 17, at All Saints Catholic Church. The family will greet friends at the church from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. Thursday before the service. Inurnment will take place at the Lisbon Cemetery.
Ruth was born Oct. 29, 1922, near Mechanicsville, Iowa, to Ralph Morris and Hazel Ann (Grassfield) Ferguson. She worked as a secretary for Newell Machinery, until her retirement. Ruth was a resident of Cedar Rapids for over 50 years. She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church. She also belonged to the VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved dancing. She enjoyed taking photos, traveling and collecting. She also treasured spending time with her many close friends.
She is survived by two sisters, Lois Rau of Naples, Fla., and Dorothy Herring of Tipton; niece, Jan (Duane) Dierks of Olin; nephew, Robert (Katie) Herring of Mechanicsville; niece, Susan (Brent) Wiederhoeft of Mechanicsville; and niece, Connie (Bill) Smith of London, Ontario.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial donations in Ruth's name may be directed to Care Initiatives Hospice or All Saints Catholic Church.
