Lucile was born on Sept. 22, 1920, in Tipton, and was raised by her mother, Edith Alberta Willer Eiler. She was a 1938 graduate of the Tipton High School, spent one year at Frances Shimmer College and one year at the University of Iowa. She then returned home to the family farm during World War II to help while her brother was in service.
After the war, she worked in Des Moines as a civil service employee. She moved to Cedar Rapids to work at Collins Radio where she met her husband. On Nov. 29, 1947, Lucile was united in marriage to Joseph Aloysius Kirk in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. After marriage, she worked at Smith's Ready To Wear Clothing Store and was a study hall monitor in the Tipton High School. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a past member of St. Mary's Guild and the Eastern Iowa Quilters Association.
She became a loving and supportive mother to her son, Robert, and daughter, Vickie. It was important to her for her children to have good character, be kind, respectful and hard working. She was a dedicated and tenacious caregiver to her husband who had a heart condition for many years.
She was very creative. She enjoyed her hobbies of cross stitching and hand quilting. She loved doing crossword puzzles and playing bingo.
Lucile is survived by her son, Robert J. Kirk of Los Angeles, Calif.; and her daughter, Vickie Peoples and her husband, Ronnie, of Raleigh, N.C.
Lucile was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Kirk on Sept. 30, 2008; her mother, Edith Eiler; and her brothers, Willard Eiler and Harold Eiler.
Other special people in her life were her nieces and nephews and their families, Vickie and Ronnie's nephew, Robbie Jackson, Jeff and Kathy Meyer family, special friends on Walters Drive and constant companion, Lucy, the boxer.
