Ewoldt, Howard J.
Howard J. Ewoldt, 84, of Garnett Place in Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012. Services: 6 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Carroll Brown. Interment: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories.
Survivors include his sister, Marie Huff of Cedar Rapids; good friends and neighbors, Don and Pat Parker; many special cousins; and his kitty, Misty.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Cliff Huff.
Howard was born May 7, 1928, in Cedar Rapids, to Hans and Rosina Ewoldt. He enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict. Howard graduated from Iowa State College with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and a Master's degree in computer science from NYU. He was employed at Bell Laboratories in New Jersey and later at Bell Communications Research, retiring in 1989. He returned to Cedar Rapids where he lived in the family home until the last year when he moved to Garnett Place, making many new friends. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the Masons.
Howard was an avid electronics and computer hobbyist as well as a photographer, taking photos of his travels across the United States, Alaska and Kenya. He also enjoyed attending symphony concerts and Iowa wrestling and football games with Cliff and Marie.
The family would especially like to thank Lee at Garnett Place for his care and support of Howard.
