Everett was born on Sept. 5, 1931, in Maquoketa, Iowa, the son of Thomas and Ella Mae Dague. He attended school in Maquoketa and worked on his brother's farm. Everett entered the U.S. Army, and was honorably discharged after serving his country. He then moved to Cedar Rapids, where he met and married Fern Hagerman in 1953. Fern passed away on Nov. 14, 2003, after more than 50 years of marriage. Everett married Marcella Grimm on Dec. 21, 2012, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Everett drove a truck for a local firm in Cedar Rapids and was a loyal Teamster. He became a business agent for the International Teamsters & Chauffeurs Local 238 and served them well for many years. Later in his career, he became the administrator for the Iowa Work Force Management Preservation Fund. Everett was also a member of the Eagles Club in Cedar Rapids.
Everett thoroughly loved his work and did not retire until he was 79. He proved to be a valuable asset to many of the unions in the Midwest. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and seeing his grandkids, and often found it difficult to drive past a casino without stopping for a brief time to try his luck. He had a huge personality and will be remembered by many for his gift of colorful conversation, his generosity and his loyalty.
Memorials may be directed to the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa.
