Evelyn Larraine Wauters, 93, of Brooklyn, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 2016, at the Brooklyn Community Estate. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 26, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Brooklyn, Iowa, with Father Brian Shepley and Father Philip Ryan officiating. Visitation: 4 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, with a rosary service at 6:30 p.m., at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Brooklyn. A memorial fund has been established.
She is survived by a son, Gary (Carol) Wauters, State Center; two daughters, Connie (Harold) McLaughlin, Ames, and Leejean Wauters (Craig Bernhardt), Garland, Texas; two sisters, Harriet Bruggeman, Victor, and Joan DeRycke Lambka, LaGrange Park, Ill.; five grandchildren, Cary (Andra) Wauters, La Crescenta, Calif., Michael (Kim) McLaughlin, Allen, Texas, Kelly (Kevin) Holtz, Port Orange, Fla., Tim (Lisa) McLaughlin, Chicago, and Patrick (Jennifer) McLaughlin, Houston, Texas; and 10 great-grandchildren, Matthew, Samantha, Andrew, Katherine, Aaron, Phoebe, Jack, Emma, Courtney and Megan.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Albert.
Evelyn DeRyke was born July 7, 1922, in Hartwick, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Mary LaKose DeRycke. She received her education in the Hartwick Community Schools and graduated in 1940. Evelyn was united in marriage to Albert Wauters in Camp Claiborne, La., on June 5, 1943. She was a member of the Hartwick Fire Women and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Evelyn enjoyed cross stitching, crocheting, knitting, sewing, baking, tending to her flower gardens and playing cards.
