EVELYN DARLENE THUERAUF

Joplin, Mo.

Evelyn Darlene Thuerauf, age 87, passed away Monday, Jan. 22, 2018, in the loving arms of her children at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, Mo.

She was born in Seminal Park at Lynn Junction, rural Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to the late William Volesky and Molly Kroul Volesky.

Evelyn married Bernard Thuerauf on Feb. 9, 1953, in Cedar Rapids; they later divorced. She was a very devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her family with all of her heart and showed her love through her cooking, cross-stitching, quilting and gardening, both fresh vegetables and her favorite flowers. She is very loved and cherished by all of her family and will be deeply missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Marvin and Lawrence Volesky.

Survivors include her three sons, Steve Thuerauf and his wife, Rhonda, Jasper, Mo., Richard Thuerauf, Joplin, Mo., and Duane Thuerauf and his wife, Becky, Abbott, Texas; three daughters, Darlene Heath and her husband, Jim, Carthage, Mo., Brenda Lacy, Joplin, Mo., and Donna Thuerauf and her husband, Robert Dorfman, San Diego, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and one great-great-grandchild to be born in June; one sister, Eleanor Hegland;, and three sisters-in-law, Adeline, Blanche and Marge Volesky, all of Cedar Rapids.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Joplin. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the mortuary. Burial will take place at the Czech National Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, Cedar Rapids. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018, at Czech National Cemetery.
