Evelyn "Schmoo" Becicka, 95, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Jan. 16, 2024, at The Gardens of Cedar Rapids. Celebration of Life service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, 2024, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Burial will be Czech National Cemetery.
Evelyn was born Jan. 16, 1929, in Troy Mills, the daughter of Harley and Sarah (Renfer) Andrews. She graduated from Troy Mills High School. When she moved to Cedar Rapids in her younger years, she worked at the Linn County Courthouse. While living in Cedar Rapids, she met the love of her life, Louis Becicka. They were married on Oct. 10, 1952, and spent 60 years happily married. Evelyn always spoke fondly of the years she spent working at Drug Town as a clerk in Cedar Rapids. After retirement, she found her passion for hobby photography and liked going to garage sales, writing books, sewing clothes, and occasionally visiting a casino with her husband. Her biggest thrill was going on bus trips all over the United States. She loved finding round barns and learning their history.
Evelyn is survived by her three grandchildren Jessica Bohnhof, Katie (Robert) Williams and Robert (Sasha) Becicka; great-grandchildren Greta, Louis, Ashton, and Nathaniel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter Luann Becicka and son Douglas Becicka.
