Evelyn Ruth Price was born March 8, 1930, in Tiffin, Iowa, the daughter of Jasper and Mary Ruth (Chapman) Spivey. As one of 10 children in the family, Evelyn would say that there was never a dull moment in the Spivey household. She was united in marriage to Orville "Bud" Price and they moved to Iowa City, which would become their home until their deaths. She worked at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City as a surgical aide before starting in the dental college at the University of Iowa, where she worked for many years, retiring in 1991. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Iowa City for over 50 years.
Evelyn was known for her cooking, never allowing a guest or family member to go away without something! She so enjoyed the Spivey family reunions and also the Tiffin High School reunions. Von Maur has lost one of its most faithful shopping customers. She loved playing basketball in high school and was active most of her life. But most dear to her heart was her family, especially her grandchildren, as she so loved being a part of their lives!
Her family includes her five children, Deborah Boyse (Ken), David Price (Julie), Orvilla Heck (Fred), Jeff Price (Laura) and Jay Price (Dede); 13 grandchildren, Wyatt Boyse, Jeremy Boyse, Crystal Geyer, Karmen Smith, David Price, Christina Franklin, Elizabeth Price, Michael Price, Kevin Heck, Molly Himmelmann, Nick Price, Lee Price, and Mark Price; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant daughter, Daphne Dawn; and nine siblings, Kenneth Spivey, Theodore Spivey, Lena Krueger, Helen Pierce, Lucille Eisentrager, Margaret Keil, Mearl McCall, Dorothy Montgomery and Lola Reynolds.
