Evelyn L. Camp Phillips, 77, of Bettendorf, formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Monday, April 20, 2015, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House after a courageous 23-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday with a visitation beginning at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Davenport, with a luncheon following the service. A second service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday with a visitation beginning at noon at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. Burial will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Phillips of Bettendorf; four children, Frank (Susan) Camp of Cedar Rapids, Terry (Jeff) Carlson of Solon, Cherie (Fran) Guillaume of Mount Vernon and Russell (Georgia) Camp of Cedar Rapids; three stepchildren, Stephen (Carrie) Phillips of Madison, Wis., Scott (Andrea) Phillips of Fort Atkinson, Wis., and Dawn (Bruce) Buri of Menominee, Wis.; 14 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and special companion, her dog, Jackie.
She was preceded in death by her parents and first husband, Franklin Camp.
Evelyn was born on Feb. 5, 1938, to Ralph and Leola Williams Nash in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Evelyn was a graduate of Marion High School. She was united in marriage to Franklin Camp on June 26, 1955, in Marion, Iowa. He passed away on Sept. 11, 2003. Evelyn was united in marriage to Robert Phillips on Sept. 24, 2005. She worked in advertising at KCRG, Henry Russell Bruce and Ivie & Associates as vice president over media. She later owned AAMCO Transmission in Davenport.
She was very active at First Baptist Church in Davenport. She led the women's ministry at the Scott County Jail. She was a breast cancer survivor for almost 30 years. Her strong faith carried her through her life and illnesses.
Evelyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and dear friend to many. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
"She was blessed and she knew it."
