EVELYN NUNEMAKER
Hiawatha
Evelyn Nunemaker, 90, of Hiawatha, passed away Monday, July 9, 2018, at her home surrounded by her loving family after a battle with breast cancer. Celebration of Life services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 13, at Brosh Chapel & The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Burial will follow in Lafayette Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to
7 p.m. Thursday, July 12, at Brosh Chapel.
Evelyn was born March 7, 1928, in Millersburg, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Alta Weeks. She graduated from Millersburg School in 1946. She moved to Cedar Rapids in 1946, where she worked at Bishop's Buffet and 3 Minute Oats. She was united in marriage to Richard "Dick" Nunemaker on Jan. 24, 1953. Later, she became a stay-at-home wife and mother to her five children, while helping her husband with his construction business. Evelyn enjoyed baking, gardening, canning and reading natural home remedies. Most importantly, she enjoyed spending quality time with her family, especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Evelyn and Richard were very family-oriented, whether it was watching Lawrence Welk, "Wheel of Fortune," going boating on the reservoir, cruising around town, or attending the grandkids' activities. She was also an active member of the Lafayette Christian Church, where she and Richard attended.
Evelyn is survived by her children, Penny (Steve) Gaskill of Lebanon, Tenn., Shirley (Joseph) Jensen of Walker, Diane (Dennis) Clinton of Center Point, Nancy (Maynard) Ormiston of Cedar Rapids and Allan (Johnna) Nunemaker of Rowley; grandchildren, Justine and Heath Omar, April (Chris) Steuhm, Anthony, Morgan and Tanner Clinton, Kayla, Braydon and Landon Nunemaker and Colton Stoddard; and six great-grandchildren, Alexus, Abby, Mackanzie, Austin, Bryson and Holden.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 62 years, Richard Nunemaker; her brothers, Carroll and Leroy Weeks; and her sisters, Ruth (LaVaughn) Small and Loretta (Wes) Dloughy.
We would like to thank Julie, Bobbie Jo and Dana and the UnityPoint Hospice for all their help and kindness through this difficult time.
We loved our Mom and Grandmother and thank her for all the love, advice and kindness she showed us through all her years.
