Evelyn Miller, 85, of Mechanicsville, passed away Monday, Oct. 2, 2017, at Mechanicsville Specialty Care. Graveside service: 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville.
Survivors include her children, Donna Schneider, Debbie (Ronnie) Leopard, Evelyn (Mike) Allen, Patty Dawson, Sharon (Hugo) Ramos and Brian Miller; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, plus one on the way; and many extended family members, friends and neighbors.
Evelyn Joyce Unruh was born May 25, 1932, in Mechanicsville, Iowa, to Louis and Bertha (Hudson) Unruh. She graduated from Mechanicsville Consolidated High School in 1951. Evelyn married Richard "Chub" Miller on Aug. 1, 1953, in Iowa City. She was a certified nursing assistant for 25 years, and belonged to the Mechanicsville Ladies' Auxiliary for many years. Evelyn appreciated planting flowers and watching them grow and bloom, feeding the birds that visited her and going to the casino for some fun. It was toward the end of her life that Evelyn accepted Jesus Christ as her savior.
She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Richard; and 12 siblings, Maxine Kniffen, Robert, Lawrence, Naomi Sell, Delores Truhlar, Glen, Ray, Fay, Clair, Clyde, Lorraine Rudolff and Henry Unruh.
Memorials may be directed to Mechanicsville Specialty Care or Care Initiatives Hospice. Cards may be sent in care of Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon.
