EVELYN MAXINE MELSHA
Galesburg, Ill.
Evelyn Maxine Melsha, 93, of Galesburg, passed away peacefully at home with her husband and family at her side on at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, 2021.
Evelyn was born on April 17, 1927, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was the daughter
of Frank and Emma (Varva) Kriz. She married Edward Melsha, and together they have built a life that has spanned 67 years.
Evelyn is survived by her loving husband, Edward of Galesburg; children, Ron (Gwen) Melsha of Solon, Iowa, Rene Hagen of Moline, Randy (Deb) Melsha of Kalona, Iowa, and Robin Admire of London Mills; sisters, Viola Portwood of Oxford, Iowa, and Marlene Kriz of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Aimee Hagen, Jessica Hagen and Kolby Melsha; and two great-grandchildren, Kayla and Emma.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Lorraine Kriz.
Evelyn graduated from Wilson High School in Cedar Rapids. After high school, Evelyn went to beauty school and was a beautician for several years. She then took a job at Oral B Manufacturing. Evelyn worked for Oral B for over thirty years, retiring in 1992 with 30 years of perfect attendance. She enjoyed going fishing, camping, and traveling. Evelyn loved to bird watch, especially her cardinals and tending to her garden and Hosta plants. She was a wonderful cook. Evelyn was a very loving and caring person, who would not have a mean word to say about anyone. Most importantly, Evelyn was a devoted wife and mother. She loved her family very much.
Cremation rites have been accorded and no services are planned at this time. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory of Knoxville has been entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family to purchase a memorial bench for Evelyn. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.hurd-hendricksfuneralhome.com.
