Evelyn Joan Thompson passed away Friday, Sept. 2, 2022, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, at 88 years of age. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids. A reception will be held immediately following the service. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, at North Lawn Cemetery in Fort Dodge.
Evelyn was born Aug. 6, 1934, in Radcliffe, Iowa. She grew up on her parent’s farm in Hardin County and her family later moved to Story City. Evelyn graduated from Drake University with a Bachelor of Music Education degree in 1956. She married K. Don Thompson on Aug. 17, 1957. She taught vocal music and worked at the family business H.K. Thompson Oil Co.
Evelyn was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Dodge, where she served as an elder and member of the church choir. She was a longtime member of the Fort Dodge Civic Glee Club and in PEO.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, K. Don; parents, Clarence M. and Clara M. (Amdall) Pearson; and five siblings.
She is survived by their three children, Sara, Carol Styron (Henry Perry) and Philip (Cherie); six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Susan (Bill) Wahl.
Memorials in Evelyn’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Research or the First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids.
