Evelyn Howe Hollister, 100, of Marion, Iowa, passed away Friday, Feb. 4, 2022, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at Murdoch Funeral Home in Marion on Thursday, Feb. 17, at 1 p.m. The Rev. Mike Morgan will officiate. Burial will take place at Wilcox Cemetery in Viola, Iowa.
Evelyn was born Sept. 24, 1921, in Anamosa, Iowa, in her grandparents upstairs bedroom, the daughter of Frances Snyder and Harold Howe. She graduated from Marion High School with the Class of '39. She worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co., US West and Qwest for 36½ years. On May 23, 1943, she married Vernon Blietz. They divorced Dec. 16, 1969. On June 16, 1972, she married Richard J. Hollister at First United Methodist Church in Marion. Richard died April 24, 1984.
Evelyn was a charter member of Marion Business Girls, Rebekah Circle, over 75-year member of First United Methodist Church, Women's Friendship Group, New Encounters, Telephone Pioneers, Scarlett O'Hatters Red Hat Group, Gardner Women's Golf Group, Ameigo Club, and Marion Nature and Garden Club.
Survivors include her stepsons, Terry (Lynn) Hollister and two grandsons, Justin and Jordan of New Hampton, Iowa, and Mark (Theresa) Hollister of Tampa, Fla.; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and special daughter-in-law, Teri Hollister.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Ava Howe and Patricia Ann Lister; brother, Howard "Bud" Howe; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Arlene and Howard Moss.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Marion or Camp Courageous of Iowa.
