Evelyn Hack, 89, of Lowden, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 28, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowden with the Rev. Dan Redhage officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, at Chapman's in Clarence.
Evelyn Esther Meier Hack was born on July 10, 1925, in Wheatland, to Herman and Auguste Licht Meier. She attended Endorf School, Trinity Lutheran School and graduated from Lowden High School in 1942. Evelyn married Walter Hack on Feb. 15, 1948. They farmed near Clarence until 1964 when they purchased their farm north of Lowden. She was also employed at Schmidt Poultry Processing. Evelyn was a member of Trinity Girls' Chorus and mixed choir from 1940 to 2010, Walther League, Legion Auxiliary, Ladies Aid, Historical Society, Trinity Couples Club and served as an officer in these organizations. She served as historian at Trinity Lutheran Church since the 1970s. Evelyn enjoyed attending the activities of her children and grandchildren, cross stitching, quilting and refinishing furniture.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Walter; and children, Justine (Darrell) Beaver of Center Point, Reatha Hack of Cedar Rapids, Claire Hack of Lowden and Robyn (Sammi) Scott of Mechanicsville; grandchildren, Brett Beaver, Carrie (John) Jaeger, Casey (Courtney) Hack and Heather and Heidi Scott; great-grandchildren, Kinley and Kamden Hack and Harper, Elise and Jensen Jaeger.
She is also survived by her brother, Arlyn Meier and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Emil Meier; and grandson, Chad Scott.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
