Evelyn A. Feiden, 96, a resident of the Rock Ridge Care Center in Shellsburg, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, March 3, 2014, at the care center after a long illness. Services at 11 a.m. Friday March 7, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include a son, Thomas Dodd of Vinton; stepson, Robert (Janet) Feiden of West Des Moines; and a stepdaughter, Nancy (Wayne) Newton of Blairstown.
She is also survived by two grandchildren, Bill Dodd and Misty (Sam) Williams; nine stepgrand-children, Steven (Gerri) and Mark Olsen, Kim (Jeff) Glandorf, Linda Feiden, Michelle (Randy) Gentile, Kathy Thielen, Deb (Dave) Mortensen and Don (Kelly) and Dan (Carrie) Newton; two great-grandchildren; and 16 stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Alice Morley; and a stepdaughter and her husband, Carol and Arne
Olsen.
Evelyn was born June 11, 1917, in Thief River Falls, Minn., the daughter of Tom and Rose Kinsela. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls and the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis. She worked for Donaldson's Department Store in Minneapolis, the Navy Department in Washington, D.C., during World War II, and later for the Social Security Administration in Cedar Rapids.
Evelyn's marriage to William E. Dodd of Newport News, Va., ended in divorce. She later married Martin E. Feiden on Aug. 10, 1960; he passed away in 1987.
Evelyn was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Shellsburg, the Shrine Widows Club, New Encounters and The Daughters of the Nile. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and the time spent with her friends and beloved family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
