Evelyn Marie Blum, 96, of Solon, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at Solon Nursing Care Center.
Evelyn's family would like to extend a special thanks to the Solon Nursing Care Center staff for the love and
care Mom received as a member of the SNCC family since 2009.
Visitation for Evelyn will be Monday, July 20, from 4 until 7 p.m., with a rosary beginning at 4 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 21, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Haverhill.
Memorials may be directed to the Solon Public Library, Solon Nursing Care Center or the Haverhill Fire Department.

Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown is caring for Evelyn and her family.
Evelyn Ryan was born Aug. 10, 1918, in Haverhill, Iowa, to John Francis and Mary Theresa Edel Ryan. Evelyn graduated from Van Cleve High School in 1936. On May 21, 1940, Evelyn was united in marriage to Morris "Short" Blum in Haverhill at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Evelyn and Short lived in Omaha from 1942 until 1944 and then Bayard, Iowa, from 1944 until 1954, when the family returned home to Haverhill.
Evelyn and Short owned Blum's Grocery and Tavern from 1960 until 2004. Evelyn was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Solon, Laurel American Legion Auxiliary Post 635 and the Historical Society of Marshall County. Evelyn enjoyed reading and crocheting potholders as well as playing the piano and organ.
Evelyn is survived by her children, Gary Blum of Los Angeles, Calif., Pat (Ron) Ikan of Solon and Larry (Gail) Blum of Marion; five grand-children, Michael Blum, John Blum, Shelley Smith, John Ikan and Shane Null; as well as 11 great-grandchildren; five great-great- grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Mildred Blum of Newton; and beloved nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Morris "Short" Blum; and in-laws, Lyle "Toad" Blum, Doris "Sally" and Sam Lyle and Max "Jim" and Beulah Blum.
