Eveard C. Hartson was born Feb. 13, 1935, in Iowa City, Iowa, to parents Archie and Edna Hartson. He married Mildred Showman on Oct. 20, 1972, in Marion, Iowa.

Eveard enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping with family, where many happy memories were made. He enjoyed the time spent with his family, as well as reading western novels. Eveard was an avid fan of watching the Chicago Bears and Cubs on TV, and was always prepared for the good natured ribbing from family that would surely follow when his teams lost.
His family knew him as a straightforward, uncomplicated man, who did his best to provide for the family. They will remember him as a kind and gentle man, helping to raise three families over the years.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred of Cedar Rapids; daughters, Judy (Craig) Willman of Cedar Rapids, Sue (Melvin) Ellis of Cedar Rapids, Chris (Pat) Mooney of Cedar Rapids, Debbie (Ken) Humphries of Muscatine, Sandra (Jimmie) Counts of Bonaparte and Cheryl Messerschmitt of Marengo; sons, Scott (Heidi) Witham of Cedar Rapids, Frank (Janelle) Witham of Fort Collins, Colo., Larry (Loretta) Messerschmitt of Bonaparte, Merlin Messerschmitt of Hiawatha and Marty (Angie) Messerschmitt of Watkins; 29 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
