Evans, Phyllis G. Stocks Allison
Phyllis G. Stocks Allison Evans, 94, of Iowa City, passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2010, due to complications of old age. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, May 7, at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., in Charles City, with the Rev. Ruth Yeaton of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, Charles City. Visitation will begin one hour before the service.

Phyllis was born March 11, 1916, in Charles City, Iowa, the daughter of D.D. and Edith Stocks. She was united in marriage to Raymond L. “Doc” Allison on June 17, 1936, and later to Dr. Titus Evans on Aug. 7, 1973.
Phyllis was the woman editor of the Charles City Daily Press and later secretary to the Registrar at the University of Iowa. She loved and supported the arts at Hancher in Iowa City. She also volunteered at the Old Capitol for 40 years. She loved to knit and earned 5,000 volunteer hours credit at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. Cooking was her “long suit” and she entertained many family and friends. Her specialty was potato chip cookies, an old family recipe.
She is survived by daughters, Judith (Robert) North of Vinton and Barbara Page of Chicago; stepchildren, Dr. Titus Evans Jr., Sue Shipp and Lucy Kuchner; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and seven stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Raymond Allison (June 1, 1958) and Dr. Titus Evans; and siblings, Dorothy Thorsen and Gordon Stocks.
