Evans, Marian
Marian Evans, 78, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Family and friends will gather from 10 to 11 a.m., with a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Marian donated her body for research to University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics.
She is survived by her son, Dale (Carolyn) Evans, and a brother, Jerome (Irene) O'Connor, both of Cedar Rapids; a sister-in-law, Wandalene O'Connor of Springville; and many nieces and nephews.
Marian was born Feb. 17, 1931, in Independence, the daughter of William and Katherine (McGuire) O'Connor. In 1952, she married Durwood Evans Jr. He died in 2005. Marian worked for the Cedar Rapids Water Department for over 20 years, retiring as a plant operator. After retirement, she was a school lunch worker, mostly filling in at Kennedy High School.
She created beautiful woodworking projects, was an avid reader, enjoyed bird watching and gardening, loved to learn and try new things.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two brothers, Joe and Leon O'Connor.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Mercy or the Alzheimer's Association.
