Evan Mengler, 81, a lifelong resident of the Cedar Rapids area, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2016. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday.
Survivors include two daughters, Terri Mengler of Cedar Rapids and Julie (Mark) Flitsch of Alburnett; a brother, Alan of Palo; and two grandsons, Jaxon and Jacob Flitsch.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a brother, Orin.
Evan was born Aug. 21, 1934, in Hebron, Neb., the son of Mildred Bamsey. He married Elizabeth "Birdie" Bradley on April 3, 1954, in Cedar Rapids. Birdie passed away in 2003.
Evan was a mechanic at Rapids Chevrolet and worked there for many years. He enjoyed water skiing, working on his boat and cars and spending time with his beloved family and friends. Evan was an avid Iowa Hawkeye football fan and enjoyed going to the games with his wife, Birdie. He proudly served in the Army and was a talented man who could fix anything.
He was a wonderful husband, father, brother and grandfather, whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial fund has been established in Evan's name.
