Eunice Florine Elwood passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at Mercy Iowa City at age 83.
Eunice was born Oct. 24, 1933, in rural South Amana, the daughter of Anton and Dora (Huedepohl) Lorenz. She attended Immanuel Lutheran parochial grade school and graduated from Williamsburg High School. Eunice was united in marriage to Harlen Wetjen on Aug. 28, 1953, at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Williamsburg. To this union, they were blessed with a son, Kelyn A. Wetjen. Harlen died Nov. 29, 1959. She later was united in marriage to James Elwood on Aug. 6, 1968, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in North English. To this union, they were blessed with a son, Robert J. Elwood. Jim died Feb. 13, 1999.
Eunice enjoyed being a wife, mother and grandmother. She also enjoyed sewing, gardening and genealogy. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Ladies Guild and choir.
She is survived by her sons, Kelyn (Tammy) Wetjen of Williamsburg and Robert (Colleen) Elwood of Rocky River, Ohio; five grandchildren, Chelsea Wetjen, Caleb Wetjen (fiancee Brittany Wicks), Katherine Wetjen, Molly Wetjen and Olivia Elwood; two sisters, Darlene Helming of Grand Island, N.Y., and Lois (the Rev. Dr. Richard) Runge of Pineville, N.C.; and a brother, Dwight (Brucie) Lorenz of South Amana.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, and two grandchildren, Heidi Wetjen and Samuel Wetjen.
Celebration of Life service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, July 16, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Pastor Tom Ogilvie will officiate. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg.
Memorials are for St. Paul Lutheran Church, Lutheran Interparish School in Williamsburg or St. Christopher Catholic School in Rocky River, Ohio.
